Every weekend we are going to post an amazing dessert recipe. From Ice Cream to brownies and much, much more. Since August is national ice cream month we decided to go with
homemade ice cream.
The kids had picked some black berries a few weeks back, and Alix really wanted to use them in the ice cream. They tasted odd so we decided to go with our Larry's produce strawberries that we had frozen after making jam. Turned out to be a great idea. Alix was really sad that all her hard work wasn't used, but she says we definitely made the best choice.
- 1 Cup Whole Milk or half and half ours was curdled so we went with plan C. 2% milk
- 2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract or to taste
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 1 Cup Fresh Strawberries - Good if macerated before with lemon juice
Combine Whole Milk with sugar and dissolve. Add Heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract and stir. We have a Cuisinart ice cream maker and I actually prefer to start the ice cream and let it solidify a bit before adding the strawberries. Total time about 25 minutes in the ice cream maker. We like to let it set overnight or at least a few hours as initially it is still too soft. We made it Saturday and ate it tonight. Kids loved it, we loved it, the ice cream was amazing. Strawberry ice cream is not my first choice in the famous 31 flavors. Since this was easy and mouth watering I would be a very fat man if Alix didn't stop me! Enjoy! Any variation with this sweet vanilla as a base is great: Oreos, caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, and other fruits all taste great.
** This is Alix and I just wanted to add this cute picture of Noah and Kevin taking pictures. Priceless.
